THE PROCESS OF PLASTIC ROTATIONAL MOULDING
In plastic rotation moulding, one half of a hollow mould is filled with plastic powder, primarily polyethylene (PE). After filling, the mould is closed and begins to rotate around both the horizontal and vertical axis. The rotating mould is then placed in an oven where the powder becomes liquid at a temperature of 240-325 °C and forms a uniform layer against the mould wall. At the end of the heating cycle, the mould is transported to a cooling chamber. Here, the mould is cooled using air, causing the product to harden. Then the rotational moulding is stopped and the product can be taken out of the mould. Ultimately, you end up with an indestructible product that does not decay and can also be recycled.
ADVANTAGES OF PLASTIC ROTATIONAL MOULDING
Plastic rotational moulding comes with many advantages that other production methods do not offer. For example, rotational moulding offers a high degree of freedom in terms of colour and shape and is also suitable for smaller product lines. This number can vary from 10-10,000 pieces, making it an accessible production option for smaller companies as well. A product made by means of rotational moulding also offers very high impact resistance and is tension-free. This is because with this technique, the product is made out of one piece and is seamless. This makes it virtually indestructible and dents in the material can easily be reverted.
The experts at Dragon Plastics monitor the process in order to guarantee the quality of the end result. We combine the trusted craftsmanship from the Netherlands with the many possibilities of plastic rotational moulding for the best result. We think with you and can always offer a tailor-made solution.
OTHER CHARACTERISTICS
Polyethylene is the most widely used plastic in the world and is fully recyclable. The thermoplastic properties do not or hardly change after the rotational moulding process. This sustainable plastic can therefore be reused as a raw material to make new, indestructible products. An important condition for this is that the waste streams are properly separated according to raw material type (properties) and colour. At Dragon Plastics we take all these things into account so that we can provide you with an optimal product.
Despite the fact that it is not easily broken down by bacteria and can therefore remain in the environment for a long time, PE can be melted down into a new product. This does cause the plastic to partly lose its indestructible properties and become more vulnerable. That is why Dragon Plastics works exclusively with pure, 'virgin' plastic for the rotational moulding process, so that your products can last for decades. For products where the high impact resistance is less important, recycling can be applied for the benefit of the environment.
